LOVE AND RIGHTS IN SEXUAL ECONOMIES IN FORTALEZA

Resumo: In this article I analyze the uses of the languages of love and rights in the missionary actions to confront "sexual crimes" carried out in the places dedicated to transnational encounters on Iracema Beach in Fortaleza. Based on ethnography, I argue that, in the context of transnational sexual economies, love is the privileged language to articulate demands for recognition and to describe transnational affective-sexual relationships. In both spheres, discourses about sexuality are eclipsed alongside the debate about sexual rights. The language of missionary love articulates gender, sexuality, and conjugality, which has the effect of making it impossible to morally recognize prostitutes as ethical subjects. I observe that the limits to the recognition of ethical subjects related to the language of love overflow, however, the missionary discourses, being shared also by some feminist movements when they do not recognize legitimacy to the experience of sexuality in the transits between the public and private spheres.

Basándome en la etnografía, sostengo que, en el contexto de las economías sexuales transnacionales, el amor es el lenguaje privilegiado para articular las demandas de reconocimiento y para describir las relaciones afectivo-sexuales transnacionales. En ambos ámbitos se eclipsan los discursos sobre la sexualidad, junto al debate sobre los derechos sexuales. El lenguaje del amor misionero articula el género, la sexualidad y la conyugalidad, lo que tiene el efecto de hacer imposible el reconocimiento moral de las prostitutas como sujetos éticos. Observo que los límites al reconocimiento de los sujetos éticos relacionados con el lenguaje del amor, sin embargo, desbordan los discursos misioneros, y son también compartidos por algunos movimientos feministas cuando éstos no reconocen la legitimidad de la experiencia de la sexualidad en los tránsitos entre las esferas pública y privada.Neste artigo analiso os usos das linguagens do amor e dos direitos nas ações missionárias de enfrentamento a “crimes sexuais” realizadas nos locais dedicados a encontros transnacionais na Praia de Iracema, em Fortaleza. Baseada na etnografia, argumento que, no contexto das economias sexuais transnacionais, o amor é a linguagem privilegiada para articular demandas por reconhecimento e para descrever as relações afetivo-sexuais transnacionais. Em ambas as esferas, os discursos sobre sexualidade ficam eclipsados, junto ao debate sobre os direitos sexuais. A linguagem do amor missionária articula gênero, sexualidade e conjugalidade o que tem como efeito a impossibilidade do reconhecimento moral de prostitutas como sujeitos éticos.
