This article aims to analyze the policiesadopted by the European Union asylumsystem and how they apply to the protectionof unaccompanied children who are forciblymigrating from a third country to theEuropean Union, given their vulnerabilityto the risks they face. To achieve this, thedeductive approach method and bibliographicresearch technique were employed, usingtheoretical frameworks such as Bhabhaand Jubilut, as well as documentary sourcesprovided by the European Union on itsofficial websites. Firstly, the article willaddress the current context of child migrationfrom third countries to the European Union,specifically focusing on unaccompaniedchildren. Subsequently, the migratory policiesof the Common European Asylum System willbe discussed, with emphasis on the DublinIII Regulation, which establishes rules fordetermining the Member State responsible forprocessing asylum applications. Furthermore,the functioning of the common asylum systemwill be analyzed from the perspective ofprotecting unaccompanied children. Finally,it is concluded that notwithstanding themigration policy of the European Unionbeing grounded on human rights principles, it establishes a protection system that is used asan instrument of migration control.
