Wikipedia: a teaching and learning resource at the university

Resumo: Technological  advances  have  transformed  various  sectors  of society, including education. This article analyzes the use of technology as a methodological alternative for teaching and learning, in contemporary times. The focus of this study is the virtual encyclopedia Wikipediaas a viable tool for the development of some of the essential skills to the university context. In order to achieve this goal, we address some of the characteristics of higher education and the Brazilian university population. Next, we address the impacts on education arising from the popularization of technologies as well as the demands currently presented to the students. Then, we discuss the relationship between Wikipediaand the University and, lastly, we stress the characteristics that make Wikipedia a potential academic teaching tool.

Este artigo analisa a utilização da tecnologia como alternativa metodológica de ensino e aprendizagem na contemporaneidade. O foco de tal estudo é a enciclopédia virtual Wikipédia, vista como um instrumento viável ao desenvolvimento de algumas das habilidades imprescindíveis ao contexto universitário. A fim de atendermos esse objetivo, tratamos de algumas das características do ensino superior e da população universitária brasileira.
