Resumo: | Piaget’s clinical method emerged as a new way to conduct experimental research with children in the study of intelligence. To investigate its origins, a historical rescue was conducted from Piaget’s adolescence, going through his days in Zurich until his days in Salpêtrière, aiming to rescue the multiple conditions of the production of the Piagetian method, by confronting biographical, bibliographic, autobiographical data and primary sources. In the end, a model of understanding on how Piaget produced his methodology is proposed, based on three complementary hypotheses: The contact with the Burt’s test, the Piagetian methodology of research in malacology, and the French psychiatric method. The conclusion is that the method is not effectively tributary to any single model, but constitutes the assimilation of ideas and accommodation of practices, which brings the origin of the method closer to the Theory of Equilibration, placing the clinical method as a kind of intellectual autobiography. |

The conclusion is that the method is not effectively tributary to any single model, but constitutes the assimilation of ideas and accommodation of practices, which brings the origin of the method closer to the Theory of Equilibration, placing the clinical method as a kind of intellectual autobiography.O método clínico piagetiano apresentou-se como uma nova forma de conduzir pesquisas experimentais com crianças no estudo da inteligência.
