Resumo: | This study intended to verify, through colostomized patients, how the education process is run during the hospitalization period. The investigation under the form of group intervention was carried out with colostomized patients enrolled in a multi-disciplinary care program, through a semi-structured interview. The data were analyzed according to the assumptions of thematic analysis proposed by Freire (11). The results showed that the education process occurs in a decontextualized way, not allowing the active participation by the patients. This importance of the educational activity by the nurse for the colostomized patients was shown, enabling them to become aware of the situation they are living, the recognition of the need to develop skills for self-care, in order to guarantee their independence and autonomy in this new way of living. |

La investigación en forma de intervención grupal, fue realizada con clientes colostomizados inscritos en un programa de asistencia multidisciplinario, en entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los datos fueron analizados de acuerdo con las presuposiciones de los análisis temáticos propuestos por Freire (11). Los resultados mostraron que el proceso educativo ocurre de una manera descontextualizada, sin que el cliente tenga la oportunidad de participar activamente. También quedó demostrada la importancia de la actividad educativa del enfermero con los clientes colostomizados, para poder ayudarlos a tomar conciencia de la situación que están viviendo, a reconocer la necesidad de desarrollar las capacidades y habilidades para autocuidarse con el objetivo de garantizar su independencia y autonomía en esta nueva manera de vivir.Este estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de verificar, junto aos clientes colostomizados, como se desenvolve o processo educativo durante o período de hospitalização. A investigação, sob forma de intervenção grupal, foi realizada com clientes colostomizados cadastrados em um programa de assistência multidisciplinar, através de entrevista semi-estruturada. Os dados foram analisados de acordo com os pressupostos da análise temática proposta por Freire(11). Os resultados evidenciaram que o processo educativo ocorre de maneira descontextualizada, não oportunizando a participação ativa do cliente.
