Resumo: Care to hospitalized children has undergone significant changes and, today, the strategy is to assist the child and family members as partners in the care. In this study we intend to report the experience of health workers with the family member of children hospitalized in the pediatric unit. Qualitative methodology has been used, case studies discussing the strong and weak points in caring for the child's family member. Analyzing the interviews, it was clear that health workers have ideas, however find it very difficult to work with the triad team-child-family member when the later is involved in planning care.

La intención de este estudio es relatar la experiencia de los profesionales de salud con el familiar del niño ingresado en la unidad de internación pediátrica. Fue utilizada la metodología cualitativa, teniendo como referente el estudio de caso, con discusiones sobre las facilidades y dificultades para tratar con el familiar del niño hospitalizado. En los análisis de las entrevistas quedó evidente que los profesionales tienen algunos conocimientos pero mucha dificultad para trabajar con el trípode grupo-niño-acompañante cuando éste tiene un rol participante en el planeamiento del cuidado.A assistência à criança hospitalizada vem sofrendo transformações significativas e, numa perspectiva atual, a estratégia é assistir a criança e seu familiar como parceiro no cuidado. Com o estudo, pretende-se relatar a vivência dos profissionais de saúde diante do familiar da criança internada na Unidade de Internação Pediátrica. Utilizou-se metodologia qualitativa, tendo como referencial o estudo de caso, discutindo as facilidades e dificuldades para atender o familiar da criança hospitalizada.
