Reflections upon transcription practice: and its relationships to interpretation in music and in poetry

Resumo: Based on the evidence that the process of transcription in music and literature (particularly in poetry) has a lot common aspects and characteristics, the text searches in the theory of translation for elements which may strengthen the critical analysis of musical transcription. Some concepts, such as work,  originality, interpretation and authorship are discussed as fundamental in the understanding of the phenomenum of transcription. The close relation between  transcription and interpretation is especially pointed out, since it has decisive influence on the comprehension of the musical piece.

The close relation between  transcription and interpretation is especially pointed out, since it has decisive influence on the comprehension of the musical piece.Partiendo de la constatación de que las prácticas de transcripción en la música y la literatura (especialmente en la poesía) tienen una serie de aspectos y características comunes, el texto busca en la teoría de la traducción (tradutología) elementos que puedan revitalizar el análisis crítico de la transcripción musical. Se discuten algunos conceptos fundamentales para la comprensión del fenómeno de la transcripción, como obra, originalidad, interpretación y autoría. Se destaca la íntima relación entre la transcripción y la interpretación, que actúa de forma decisiva en el proceso de comprensión de la obra.Partindo da constatação de que as práticas de transcrição em música e em literatura (particularmente em poesia) guardam uma série de aspectos e características comuns, o texto vai buscar na teoria da tradução (tradutologia) elementos que possam revigorar a análise crítica da transcrição musical. São discutidos alguns conceitos fundamentais para o entendimento do fenômeno da transcrição, como obra, originalidade, interpretação e autoria.
