Resumo: The purpose of this research is to do a case study to understand how the New Integral High School is being implemented in a state school in Minas Gerais. The intention is to verify how a national public policy affects students' lives who are supervised by it. The High School Reforms in Brazil happen after a federal law in 2017. In the model school of this research the Integral High School has been implemented since 2019, however, because of the Covid 19 pandemic, all classes were only reached in 2022. The New High School has been recently and constantly a target of debate in the country. This paper takes into consideration how this type of teaching affectsstudents (in regard of the number of enrolments, passing or failing and school withdrawal), the teachers and the school community and makes us reflect on the necessity of improvements or changes. The research, carried out between September and October 2023, with a review of the literature relevant to the topic and with analysis of public data, through the Education Census, provided by INEP, relating to the years 2018, 2020 and 2022, provides information about the reference school that helps to understand how this entire process of New Integral High School affects the school environment and the impact it can have on the future of these young people. In the end, it appears that, in this school, there was an increase in dropouts in the third year of high school between 2018 and 2022 and low academic performance, which can be attributed to the fact that some of these students need to work. A problem that can be solved with local, state and federal commitment.
