Resumo: O texto objetiva discutir a temática da violência no Brasil, tomando como referencial analítico a cultura e a prática do aprisionamento, sua mecânica e seus efeitos. E o faz com intenções muito claras, conforme as duas seções do texto: na primeira, trata-se de explicitar o caráter injusto e perigoso do sistema prisional, enquanto uma institucionalidade que chancela a extrema desigualdade social reinante no Brasil, contando-se com a apatia de uma sociedade que mescla incapacidade e indiferença para com as suas mazelas; e, na segunda parte, argumenta-se a favor de uma necessária reorientação política diante da problemática da violência - uma guinada criativa à “esquerda” - para enfrentamento do desgaste das nossas esperanças nacionais.
