The sport is configured as a sociocultural phenomenon, with dynamic features that follow the evolution of society. Its modern form dates from the late Eighteenth Century, and its expansion has been driven by institutions such as school and the club. However, in recent decades, the sport has become and has been adapting to the globalized world, the consumer society, and the media, manifesting itself in multiple ways and given the different segments of society, highlighting the need to better explore this subject. The present study addresses the interface between sport and its characteristics, aiming at evidencing the diversity that characterizes the sport phenomenon in the contemporary scenario. In order to do so, the study discusses aspects related to the expansion of the sport phenomenon, diversity of scenarios, practices and characters, as well as the meanings and the plurality of contemporary sport, inserted in a sociocultural context that manifests itself in a complex way.
