Design education on the fringes of the center and the possible disruption of the regular alphabet

The study of printed design production in a location on the fringes of large centers, such as Sergipe, involves understanding aspects of the history of the training of creative professionals who work there. In this sense, the objective of this article is to reflect on the current production of graphic designers from Sergipe, considering that, based on a disciplinary education distanced from the functionalist paradigm, non-hegemonic references place their graphic purpose at a level that can bring tension to the “good design” notions. In order to achieve that, we contextualize the particulars of Sergipe history of Design graduation in relation to the national scene. We also bring to this text scope references and results obtained in the research on the Graphic Memory of Sergipe, developed between 2018 and 2020, from specialized bibliography and, mainly, documents and testimonials obtained by immerging in the scenes of the state printed production.
