ANALYSIS OF AN INVESTIGATIVE DIDACTIC SEQUENCE WITH A FOCUS ON THE STUDY OF CHEMICAL AND SOCIAL ISSUES RELATED TO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Resumo: This article describes the pilot application of an Investigative Didactic Sequence (IDS), focusing on the study of chemical and social issues related to alcoholic beverages. The work was developed with 12th-grade students from a public school in the city of Porto Firme, Minas Gerais. The goal was to discuss the problems related to alcoholism and prevent the abusive use of alcohol by young people. Methodologically, the activities encompassed contextual discussions; experiments to determine the alcohol content in gasoline and some alcoholic beverages; a visit to a distillery as a field activity, and reflections on alcoholism as a social problem. The analysis of preliminary data was conducted through case studies, using the transcriptions of audio recordings from the classes, students' responses to written materials, in addition to the teacher's impressions and notes throughout the teaching process. The results of the action highlighted students' difficulties in understanding the fermentation process, which led to revisiting this content at other moments. Those activities fostered the development of argumentation and, consequently, critical and reflective thinking among students regarding the socio-scientific issues raised throughout the classes, as well as contributing to giving meaning to science learning in school.

El trabajo fue desarrollado con alumnos del tercer año de la enseñanza media de una escuela pública de la ciudad de Porto Firme, Minas Gerais. Se buscó discutir los problemas relacionados con el alcoholismo y prevenir el uso abusivo de alcohol por los jóvenes. Metodológicamente, las actividades incluyeron discusiones contextuales; experimentos para determinar el contenido de alcohol en la gasolina y en algunas bebidas alcohólicas; visita a un alambique como actividad de campo y reflexiones sobre el alcoholismo como un problema social. Los datos preliminares se analizaron a partir de estudios de caso, utilizando como fuente las transcripciones de los audios de las clases, las respuestas de los estudiantes a los materiales escritos, así como las impresiones y anotaciones del profesor a lo largo del proceso de enseñanza. Los resultados de la acción mostraron dificultades de los estudiantes para comprender el proceso de fermentación, lo que llevó a la reanudación de ese contenido en otros momentos. Esas actividades favorecieron el desarrollo de la argumentación y, en consecuencia, del pensamiento crítico y reflexivo de los estudiantes ante las cuestiones sociocientíficas planteadas a lo largo de las clases, además de ayudarlos a atribuir significado al aprendizaje de ciencias en la escuela.Este artigo descreve a aplicação piloto de uma Sequência Didática Investigativa (SDI), com foco no estudo das questões químicas e sociais relacionadas às bebidas alcóolicas. O trabalho foi desenvolvido com alunos da terceira série do ensino médio de uma escola pública da cidade de Porto Firme, Minas Gerais. Buscou-se discutir os problemas relativos ao alcoolismo e prevenir o uso abusivo de álcool pelos jovens. No aspecto metodológico, as atividades contemplaram discussões contextuais; experimentos para determinar o teor de álcool na gasolina e em algumas bebidas alcoólicas; visita a um alambique como atividade de campo e reflexões acerca do alcoolismo como uma problemática social. A análise dos dados preliminares foi feita por meio de estudos de caso, tendo como fonte as transcrições dos áudios das aulas, as respostas dos estudantes aos materiais escritos, além das impressões e anotações do professor ao longo do processo de ensino. Os resultados da ação evidenciaram dificuldade dos estudantes na compreensão do processo de fermentação, o que levou à retomada desse conteúdo em outros momentos.
