Resumo: | The Contemporary Studies Group in Mathematics Education (GECEM) designs and conducts workshops involving mathematics, art, teachers, and students to engage and advocate for alternative approaches to mathematical education through art, both within schools and educational settings. This article presents the details of a workshop based on a piece by indigenous artist Jaider Esbell, developed with elementary school students from the Herondina Medeiros Zeferino Basic School, located in Florianópolis, SC. The workshop aims to challenge the naturalized images of mathematics and those about mathematics, which in the school environment arise as a consequence of the coloniality of knowledge. Simultaneously, it offers an opportunity to question the methods and means since there is a persistent insistence on a singular approach to teaching, learning, and mathematics within the school context. |
