This study refers to a qualitative research in the field of reading and writing in mathematics classes that aims to analyze the introduction of mathematical concepts through the comics. contributions have investigated this methodological approach to the process of teaching and learning of mathematics. The theoretical framework used focuses on the historical-cultural approach of Vygotsky's theory, as well as recent studies on the mathematical language and the use of reading and writing in mathematics classes, by several researchers. The research developed with students of the 6th year of elementary school in a public school in the municipality of São Luís (MA). Therefore, we developed activities with comics, who sought the development of reading and writing students, which were observed by the researcher and also the teacher-employee. The results show that the HQs contribute to learning mathematics in that arouse the attention of students to mathematical knowledge and allow them to assigning meaning to the concepts studied.
