Resumo: This article is about the pedagogical work and the Heitor Villa-Lobos music education conception, from the concept of “social imagination” developed by Bronislaw Baczko (1985). Considering ‘the importance of imagination upon the collective prazes’, this concept made possible the analysis of the aesthetic, ideological and pedagogic Villa-Lobos model, and its form of organization of the collective, in the “Era Vargas”(1930-1945) context. The “Guia Prático”, work wich sintetyses the ideas of this brasilian composer about the importance of music in education, is the object of analyses regarding these concepts.

Ao considerar “o peso do imaginário sobre as práticas coletivas”, este conceito possibilitou uma análise das implicações estéticas, ideológicas e pedagógicas do modelo villalobiano, sobretudo em suas formas de organização dos coletivos, no contexto da “Era Vargas” (1930-1945).
