Anamnesis impact to an integrated care: Portuguese students’ view

Objective: To investigate the medical school's student's understanding of the biophyschosocial approach contained in the anamnesis, and to describe how the manner can contribute to holistic health care. Method: Field research with a qualitative approach to the results, approved by the Research Ethics Committee under protocol no. 1400/11. Thirty-two students participated in the Medicine Course at the University of Algarve, Portugal. The data were obtained through answerers about two open questions and interpreted by the Content Analysis Technique in the thematic modality. Results: The analysis of the answer of first question indicated three thematic categories: the holistic understanding of the person; communication and interaction with the team; exercise of citizenship. The data were obtained in the answer of the second question, the analysis allowed five thematic categories: the specialization of medicine, the risk of medicalization and medical error; adherence to the therapeutic plan; resource management; dialogue and assertiveness; and habits of life. Conclusions: Portuguese students characterized their understanding and revealed the conceptual focus on centered in person, in relation to the biopsychosocial approach. They important showed contributions to holistic health care through the anamneses of biopsychosocial approach.
