Resumo: The present work is a semiotic analysis of two works of deaf literature: "Deaf Cinderella" and "The Little Deaf Bean". They are adapted for deaf culture, therefore, they contain the text written in Libras (Brazilian sign language) with the Sutton SignWriting system, and in Portuguese, accompanied by illustrations. The theoretical framework of the research is supported by Bakhtin's category of ideology and Brait's verbal-visuality. The general research objective was to analyze meaning production in the verbal-visual text present in literature adapted for the deaf. The specific objectives were to identify which aspects from these classics of hearing children's literature were altered when adapted for the deaf culture; to analyze the ideology present in the verbal- visual text; and to ascertain if deaf culture and subjectivity are represented in the images, the sign writing, and in the Portuguese text. A qualitative documentary research method was adopted, with content analysis focused on the production of meaning in the verbal-visual text, and its corpus being the two works mentioned above. The data showed that the literary works are verbal-visual texts and present the following ideologies about the deaf community: Education, History, Families and Audism.
