This thesis is located in the interface of Translations Studies with the Representation of Social Actors (VAN LEEUWEN,1997) and style in fictional texts (LEECH and SHORT, 2007) by investigating how lexicogrammatical choices construct meanings in texts with translational relations in Portuguese and Spanish. It is an investigation of the forms of representation of Jesus in the Portuguese and Spanish translations of the NIV Bible (New Internacional Version). Realizations of Jesus Christ as a Social Actor were identified and annotated according to the Personalization and Impersonalization system. The analysis reveals that Jesus Christ is represented mainly by Personalization in both languages, especially by Nomination and Functionalization. It is argued that, through these results, Jesus is more humanized than divinized in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In addition to this analysis, this thesis also presents results concerning the style of these texts constructed by their narrators. Results mainly reveal the actuation of narrators through direct discourse, which makes the central character of this investigation, Jesus Christ, visible through other characters in the narratives. This narrative resource is especially visible in John and Luke in both languages.
