This research aims to analyze the relationship between work and health of active pharmacists in pharmacies in Campina Grande – Paraiba. To this end, we sought to know the conditions and forms of organization of work, identifying job content and size the difference between the prescribed and actual work of these professionals, to identify the sources of suffering and pleasure and check for manifestations of disease process category. Such objectives facing the reality of working pharmacists were established, where they are immersed in the context of large drugstore chains, subject to countless rules and regulations, and an overload of work. The theoretical approaches that guided this study were the psychodynamics of work, Ergonomics of Activity and Clinical Activity. To do so, supporting us in a methodological perspective that sought to know the content of the work, we opted for the use of Inquiry into Health and Labor Services - INSATS and a semistructured individual interviews . Participated in the survey of 48 pharmaceutical pharmacy chains located in the city of Campina Grande - Paraiba. The data were stored in INSATS the Statistical Package for Social Science for Windows (SPSS, version 20.0), where we used descriptive statistics and inferences. Data from the interviews were subjected to thematic content analysis. In reviewing the results proved the complexity of the pharmaceutical activity in commercial pharmacy. Participants noted that they are subjected to stressful conditions of work and work organization generates suffering. However, it was also pointed out that the daily work of the pharmacist is able to provide the professional feeling of satisfaction, recognition and professional achievement, demonstrating that, even in the face of deleterious health circumstances, the worker is able to transform suffering into pleasure. We found that direct contact with the public is a factor characteristic of the work of the pharmacist being responsible for both experiences of pleasure and suffering, as is characteristic of relations services. Health, we realize that the health of pharmacists is being affected by their work, and they claimed to have physical and mental health problems that are closely related to the daily work. It was noticed that the pharmacy profession is in flux, and that gradually professionals are gaining improvements with regard to the conditions and organization of work, although there is still much to be improved. Therefore, we hope that this study can give a direction as the needs and difficulties experienced by professionals.
