Resumo: The objective of this article is to problematize the trajectory of Josué de Castro in research institutions focused on the field of food during the Estado Novo. The work of Josué de Castro in these institutions collaborated to publish one of his best known works, Geography of Hunger. In that historical moment Josué de Castro transcended the frontiers of the academic world, not only in his role as a technician of food institutions, but as a public man who, through his writings, sought to link the problem of hunger to the competence of the State.
