None intellectual was so deeply identify with the issue as Josué de Castro is with the hunger. It was an obsessive idea and he inserted it between the categories of modern thought. However, although known since his childhood years watching closely the misery of the flooded areas of Recife, the hunger has not always been an issue for him, neither has emerged as a linear development of his intellectual production. Indeed, the encounter with the issue was one of those unexpected of life, it would never have happened if everything else was as it should have been. Following the path of Josué to the entrance of "hunger" in his agenda, through an analysis that integrates life and work, the aim of this paper is to see how he built the relationship of the intellectual with his theme, making visible the mediators who brought this route
