Racism and sexism in Higher Education Institutions: black faculty members’ experiences in academic management

Resumo: Our writing arises from the concerns raised by the teaching function in public higher education, whose attributions are diverse, and include, among them, the academic management. We highlight the influences of the intersection between race and gender and its consequences for black women professors who accept institutional management activities. This is a report of experiences marked by racism and sexism, but also by the necessary resistance to avoid that silencing and erasure succeed. We identified important contributions to the struggles against the myth of racial democracy, still in force at educational institutions, and also to the continuity of these struggles, especially in the face of the pact of whiteness, that operates by limiting the achievements aimed at the construction of anti-racist and anti-sexist societies.

Destacamos as influências da intersecção entre raça e gênero e suas consequências para as mulheres negras professoras que assumem atividades de gestão institucional. Trata-se de um relato de experiências atravessadas pelo racismo e sexismo, mas também pelas resistências necessárias para evitar que o silenciamento e o apagamento logrem êxito.
