Resumo: This paper reports on the acquisition of Portuguese Language by immigrants who had undertaken an Extension Course of Portuguese Language as Welcoming Language (PWL) offered by IFRS-Campus Bento Gonçalves, analyzing the students’ linguistic proficiency. The data was obtained through a qualitative and descriptive research based on interviews with three Haitian immigrants who live in the city of Bento Gonçalves-RS. The results were later compared to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR, 2001), focusing on the oral production of the subjects. From the information gathered, it is possible to state that the students demonstrate evolution on their Portuguese Language fluency, as they have mostly accomplished what is defined as level A1 and A2 of CEFR (2001) regarding oral production. In addition, these results reveal that the main goal of the Extension Course, which is to offer language learning that enables the students to communicate in everyday social interactions, has been accomplished.

A pesquisa qualitativa, de caráter descritivo, deu-se por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com três imigrantes haitianos residentes no município de Bento Gonçalves-RS e analisadas a partir dos descritores do Quadro Europeu Comum de Referência (QECR, 2001), com foco para a produção oral dos sujeitos. A partir dos resultados, é possível afirmar que os sujeitos apresentaram progressão na fluência em língua portuguesa, já que, de forma geral, cumpriram o proposto pelos descritores do nível A1 e A2 do QECR (2001), em termos de produção oral.
