A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE RELATIONS BETWEEN SPIRITUALITY AND PSYCHOTHERAPY: HOW DOES THE GESTALT THERAPIST WORK?

Resumo: This article starts from the questioning about the relationship between spirituality and psychotherapy, according to the perceptions of Gestalt therapists. It aims to describe how such psychotherapists perceive the theme of spirituality and its presence in the clinic, as well as how it is handled in the psychotherapeutic context. The material presented here brings part of the results obtained in a more comprehensive empirical research, in which the qualitative and phenomenological method was used for data collection and analysis, as conceived by Amedeu Giorgi. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five Gestalt therapists with extensive clinical experience. The study resulted in the apprehension of essential components of the participants' experiences, which included the presence of existential and transcendent themes in the clinic, the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the phenomenological posture, the integration between the spiritual and psychic dimensions, their possible relationships with religion, as well as the psychotherapist's own spirituality.

Tiene como objetivo describir cómo dichos psicoterapeutas describen el tema de la espiritualidad y su presencia en la clínica, así como también cómo se maneja en el contexto psicoterapéutico. El material aquí presentado trae parte de los resultados obtenidos en una investigación empírica más amplia, en la que se utilizó el método cualitativo y fenomenológico para la recolección y análisis de datos, tal como lo concibió Amedeu Giorgi. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con cinco terapeutas Gestalt con amplia experiencia clínica. El estudio resultó en la aprehensión de componentes esenciales de las experiencias de los participantes, que incluyeron la presencia de temas existenciales y trascendentes en la clínica, la importancia de la relación terapéutica y la postura fenomenológica, la integración entre las dimensiones espiritual y psíquica, sus posibles relaciones con la religión, así como la propia espiritualidad del psicoterapeuta.Este artigo parte da indagação acerca da relação entre espiritualidade e psicoterapia segundo as percepções de Gestalt-terapeutas. Tem como objetivo descrever como tais psicoterapeutas descrevem o tema da espiritualidade e sua presença na clínica, bem como o modo se dá o seu manejo no contexto psicoterápico. O material aqui apresentado traz uma parte dos resultados obtidos em uma pesquisa empírica mais abrangente, na qual empregou-se o método qualitativo e fenomenológico para coleta e análise de dados conforme concebido por Amedeu Giorgi. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com cinco Gestalt-terapeutas com vasta experiência clínica.
