Partindo desta premissa, a competitividade territorial apresenta novos desafios, pois o processo de globalização em curso é incontornável, dinâmico e complexo. Considerando a competitividade como um processo, a diferenciação da gestão é fator de primordial importância, onde o planejamento estratégico global e urbano faz parte do desenvolvimento da cidade como um todo. O sentido de competitividade é relacionado a busca constante de inovações, em prol da qualidade de vida da população local e de melhorias no destino turístico como forma de se destacar num mercado cada vez mais competitivo. A Geografia Econômica Evolutiva tem sido um tema novo e muito promissor no desenvolvimento de novas teorias, podendo ser considerada como importante ferramenta explicativa na interpretação da dinâmica e da evolução de destinos turísticos, inclusive de sua competitividade. Este duplo enfoque pode superar as falhas dos modelos convencionais de análise. O foco principal da Geografia Econômica Evolutiva está nos processos e mecanismos através dos quais a economia se autotransforma, e devem cumprir três requisitos básicos: serem dinâmicos; saber lidar com processos irreversíveis; e apresentar a novidade como a melhor fonte de autotransformação, através dos pilares da path dependence, complexity theory e generalised darwinism, onde a inovação e o conhecimento assumem uma importância central na economia evolutiva. Sendo assim, a presente pesquisa teve como objetivo geral analisar a dinâmica evolutiva da competitividade do destino turístico Curitiba por meio da Geografia Econômica Evolutiva. Considerando esta dinâmica evolutiva, os objetivos específicos foram caracterizar e compreender os fatores externos, os fatores internos e a demanda turística de Curitiba. A metodologia da pesquisa é de abordagem qualitativa, que a partir da verificação de seus objetivos caracterizou-se como exploratória, descritiva e analítica. Tratando-se de uma temática relativamente nova na análise da Competitividade dos Destinos Turísticos, se baseou em técnicas tradicionais como: pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, focus group, estudo de caso de Curitiba e a elaboração de linhas do tempo. Assim, foi estabelecido como objeto de estudo o destino turístico Curitiba, tanto no intuito de analisar se a Geografia Econômica Evolutiva configura um marco analítico adequado para compreender a dinâmica evolutiva da competitividade dos destinos turísticos, como para analisar se a dinâmica evolutiva do destino turístico Curitiba afetou sua competitividade. Neste contexto, foi possível observar que o processo de inserção do turismo na cidade de Curitiba foi reflexo do planejamento urbano e de políticas orientadas pelo city marketing, através da apropriação de intervenções urbanas em atrativos turísticos, gerando uma demanda significativa e um trade específico orientado e organizado para o desenvolvimento do turismo.Abstract: Competitiveness has a key role for the future of territories. According this premise, the territorial competitiveness represents new challenges, because of the ongoing process of globalization is uncontrolled, dynamic and complex. Considering competitiveness as a process, the differentiation of management is a prime factor importance, where the global and urban strategic planning is part of the city's development as a whole. The sense of competitiveness is related to constant search of innovations, to the better quality of life of the local population and to improvement the tourism destination as a way to stand out in an increasingly competitive market. The Evolutionary Economic Geography has been a new and very promising theme to develop new theories and can be considered as an important explanatory tool in the interpretation of the dynamics and evolution of tourism destinations, including its competitiveness. This dual approach can overcome the shortcomings of conventional analysis models. The main focus of Evolutionary Economic Geography is in the processes and mechanisms through which the economy transforms itself, and must achieve three basic requirements: to be dynamic; to confront with irreversible processes; and present the new as the best source of self-transformation through the pillars of path dependence, complexity theory and generalised darwinism, where the innovation and knowledge are of central importance in the evolutionary economy. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the evolutionary dynamics of competitiveness of tourism destination Curitiba by Evolutionary Economic Geography. Considering this evolutionary dynamics, the specific objectives were to characterize and understand the external factors, internal factors and the tourism demand of Curitiba. The research methodology is qualitative approach, in which from the verification of goals was characterized as exploratory, descriptive and analytical study. Since this is a relatively new theme in the analysis of competitiveness destination, the work was based on traditional techniques such as literature review and documental analysis, focus group analysis, case study of Curitiba, and, the development of timelines. Therefore, the tourism destination Curitiba was defined as the object of study, both in order to analyze if the Evolutionary Economic Geography sets up an analytical framework suited to understand the evolutionary dynamics of competitiveness of tourism destinations, and to analyze if the evolutionary dynamics of tourism destination Curitiba affect its competitiveness.
