Defesa: Curitiba, 11/03/2016Inclui referências : f. 138-140Resumo: Tendo em vista o ensino de língua estrangeira e a relação entre língua e cultura, nesta pesquisa busco analisar quais são as representações culturais compartilhadas por docentes de língua inglesa graduados no curso de Licenciatura em Letras Português-Inglês da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná. Este estudo tem como objetivo verificar qual é a visão de cultura que predomina no cenário atual entre estes professores que começaram a atuar recentemente no ensino da língua e que compartilham de um mesmo contexto de formação acadêmica. Sendo assim, primeiramente trago um panorama de alguns entendimentos atribuídos à cultura: a) a ideia antropológica de cultura; b) a concepção sociológica; e c) a acepção pós-moderna, conforme Bhabha (2013) e Hall (2006, 2013). Além disso, neste trabalho utilizo o princípio de representações culturais que, segundo Moscovici (2009) são formas de representações coletivas dinâmicas que prescrevem e condicionam os aspectos simbólicos de uma sociedade. Concomitante com tais ideias, adoto a concepção de língua como discurso com base em Bakhtin (1995) dialogando com a noção de língua como cultura de acordo com Kramsch (1993, 1998). E ainda, partindo da posição atual do Inglês como Língua Franca/Internacional, procuro constatar qual é o lugar da cultura nesse status da língua inglesa. Como base teórica para o ensino de Inglês como Língua Franca, considero os apontamentos de McKay (2012), Jenkins (2007), Cogo (2012), Seidholfer (2005) e Pennycook (2007). Sendo esta uma pesquisa de cunho qualitativo-interpretativista, já que seu objetivo é a interpretação das representações culturais por professores em relação ao inglês, a geração de dados para a condução do estudo foi realizada por meio da aplicação de questionário e entrevistas grupal e individual. Além de verificar como as representações culturais da língua inglesa são percebidas pelos docentes no contexto específico, este trabalho poderá beneficiar futuros estudos que sejam voltados para questões culturais no ensino/aprendizagem de língua inglesa, além de oferecer um panorama atual do pensamento a respeito da ideia de cultura no ensino de inglês. Inglês língua franca.Abstract: Bearing in mind the foreign language teaching and the relation between language and culture, in this research I analyze the cultural representations by English teachers who majored in Languages (Portuguese and English) at Federal University of Technology of Paraná. This study aims to verify the predominant cultural view in the current scenery shared between these teachers who started to teach English recently and who had the same educational background. Therefore, first I bring an outlook of some understandings about culture: a) the anthropological idea of culture; b) the sociological conception; and c) the postmodern definition from Bhabha (2013) and Hall (2006, 2013). Furthermore, in this investigation I use the principle of cultural representations that are dynamic collective representations dictating and conditioning the symbolical aspects of a society, according to Moscovici (2009). In addition, I adopt the conception of language as discourse based on Bakhtin (1995) dialoguing with the notion of language as culture proposed by Kramsch (1993, 1998). Moreover, starting from the current position of English as a Lingua Franca / International Language, I try to certify what the position of culture is in relation to this English status. For theoretical basis to English teaching as a Lingua Franca, I consider the remarks by McKay (2012), Jenkins (2007), Cogo (2012), Seidholfer (2005) and Pennycook (2007). Being this a qualitative-interpretative research, since it aims to understand the cultural representations of English by teachers, the data generation was got by questionnaire application and by group and individual interviews. Besides verifying how the cultural representations are perceived by teachers in a specific context, this research would improve future studies about cultural themes in English teaching and learning, beyond offering a recently overview of the thought concerning the culture in the English teaching.
