Defesa: Curitiba, 18/02/2013Inclui referênciasÁrea de concentração: LinguísticaResumo: Em um trabalho seminal publicado no ano de 1975, sob o título The Logical Status of Fictional Discourse, o filósofo John Searle evidenciou duas questões que, conforme a revisão do antropólogo cognitivo Pascal Boyer (2007), permanecem enigmáticas à ciência. A primeira diz respeito à motivação para a ficção - quais processos evolutivos a teriam fixado como um atrator transcultural entre os seres humanos; a segunda remete ao processo da comunicação ficcional, pertinente ao que possibilita um autor usar as palavras literalmente sem se comprometer com seus significados literais. A fim de promover uma hipótese explicativa aos questionamentos searleanos, este trabalho supõe a ficcionalidade como uma propriedade psicológica intrínseca aos seres humanos, assunção que viabiliza uma formulação ontologicamente reduzida, sendo a ficção e a comunicação compreendidas como processos metarrepresentativos: a ficção é definida como uma relação de segunda ordem para com o mundo real, por intermédio de uma lógica de representações de personagens, eventos, lugares, etc. (WALSH, 2007), ao passo que a comunicação é assumida conforme o Segundo Princípio de Relevância, ou Princípio Comunicativo (SPERBER e WILSON, 1995), que a define como uma intenção de informar uma intenção informativa a uma audiência. Para tanto, o texto se articula em três momentos. Primeiramente se propõe o deslocamento epistemológico dos estudos ficcionais rumo a um paradigma naturalístico; em seguida, é descrita a função ficcional como emergente do componente cognitivo especificado sob a noção de Teoria da Mente (PREMACK e WOODRUFF, 1978), cuja habilidade é a de compreender e atribuir estados mentais, tais como intenções, crenças, desejos e conhecimentos, a si mesmo e aos outros. Por fim, é proposta uma modelação baseada na Teoria da Relevância (SPERBER e WILSON, 1995) para a comunicação ficcional, argumentando que tanto a ficcionalidade quanto a comunicação ordinária repousam sobre a capacidade metarrepresentativa, sendo, portanto, passíveis de tratamento pelo modelo relevantista.Abstract: In a seminal paper published in 1975, The Logical Status of Fictional Discourse, the philosopher John Searle presented two questions which, according to cognitive anthropologist Pascal Boyer (2007), remain enigmatic to Science. The first one relates to motivation for fiction and evolutionary processes which made it a cultural attractor among human beings; the second one is about the fictional communication process, pertaining to what makes possible for an author to use words literally without compromising with their literal meaning. In order to promote explanatory adequacy to this questioning by Searle, the present work supposes fictionality as an intrinsic psychological human property, an assumption which allows an ontologically reduced formulation, fiction and communication being metarepresentative processes: fiction is defined as a second order relation to the real world intermediated by a logic of representing characters, events, places etc. (WALSH, 2007), whereas communication is assumed according to the second principle of relevance, or Communicative Principle (SPERBER e WILSON, 1995), defined as the intention to inform an informative intention to an audience. Therefore, the text can be articulated in three moments. First, we propose dislocating epistemologically the fiction studies to a naturalistic paradigm; then, we describe fictional function as emerging from the cognitive component specified by Theory of Mind (PREMACK e WOODRUFF, 1978), which license us to understand and attribute mental states, such as intentions, beliefs, desires and knowledge to ourselves and the others.
