Abstract: In a seminal paper published in 1975, The Logical Status of Fictional Discourse, the philosopher John Searle presented two questions which, according to cognitive anthropologist Pascal Boyer (2007), remain enigmatic to Science. The first one relates to motivation for fiction and evolutionary processes which made it a cultural attractor among human beings; the second one is about the fictional communication process, pertaining to what makes possible for an author to use words literally without compromising with their literal meaning. In order to promote explanatory adequacy to this questioning by Searle, the present work supposes fictionality as an intrinsic psychological human property, an assumption which allows an ontologically reduced formulation, fiction and communication being metarepresentative processes: fiction is defined as a second order relation to the real world intermediated by a logic of representing characters, events, places etc. (WALSH, 2007), whereas communication is assumed according to the second principle of relevance, or Communicative Principle (SPERBER e WILSON, 1995), defined as the intention to inform an informative intention to an audience. Therefore, the text can be articulated in three moments. First, we propose dislocating epistemologically the fiction studies to a naturalistic paradigm; then, we describe fictional function as emerging from the cognitive component specified by Theory of Mind (PREMACK e WOODRUFF, 1978), which license us to understand and attribute mental states, such as intentions, beliefs, desires and knowledge to ourselves and the others. Finally, we propose a model based on Relevance Theory (SPERBER e WILSON, 1995) for fictional communication, arguing that fictionality as well as communication lay on metarepresentation capacity, that is, they can be described through a model based on relevance.143f. : il.application/pdfDisponível em formato digitalDissertaçõesLetrasPragmaticaEpistemologiaRelevânciaHomo Fabulans : ficcionalidade, epistemologia e pragmáticainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisporreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFPRinstname:Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR)instacron:UFPRinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessORIGINALR - D - RODRIGO BUENO FERREIRA.pdfapplication/pdf824625https://acervodigital.ufpr.br/bitstream/1884/36413/1/R%20-%20D%20-%20RODRIGO%20BUENO%20FERREIRA.pdf1d24caf28504a014671db605e6bad0fbMD51open accessTEXTR - D - RODRIGO BUENO FERREIRA.pdf.txtExtracted Texttext/plain310506https://acervodigital.ufpr.br/bitstream/1884/36413/2/R%20-%20D%20-%20RODRIGO%20BUENO%20FERREIRA.pdf.txtc3817e9fa8a75f35673022f3cb48de0dMD52open accessTHUMBNAILR - D - RODRIGO BUENO FERREIRA.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1151https://acervodigital.ufpr.br/bitstream/1884/36413/3/R%20-%20D%20-%20RODRIGO%20BUENO%20FERREIRA.pdf.jpg735161aab76564f698af7da06e565ebaMD53open access1884/364132020-03-13 11:54:38.373open accessoai:acervodigital.ufpr.br:1884/36413Repositório de PublicaçõesPUBhttp://acervodigital.ufpr.br/oai/requestopendoar:3082020-03-13T14:54:38Repositório Institucional da UFPR - Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR)false |
