Tais exigências oportunamente deram origem aos primeiros protestos que iriam transformar a situação da mulher. A poesia de Emily Dickinson deve ser abordada sem os estereótipos que impedem o resgate sóciocultural e estético de sua obra, dois aspectos que não podemos ignorar. Seu trabalho foi desencorajado para publicação por não se adequar aos padrões literários femininos de sua época. Apresentando de maneira oblíqua toda idéia que desejava expressar, pôs em xeque os papéis impostos pela sociedade patriarcal em que vivia e optou por preservar sua integridade poética num mundo em que a criatividade e a independência eram negadas às mulheres. Em seus poemas podemos 1er uma tensão contida, gerada pela opressão a que as mulheres se viam compelidas. Ao utilizar uma linguagem origina! e concisa, constituída de imagens impactantes e metáforas particulares, Dickinson inaugurou um novo estilo poético, que é aberto a muitas possibilidades de interpretação. Portanto, em virtude da forma diferenciada com que escreveu, não pode ser rotulada como poeta representativa da tradição literária feminina de sua época, que era voltada para o gosto popular e se apresentava eivada de conservadorismo e sentimentalismo. Utilizou-se do material em voga sim, como mulher do seu tempo, mas o fez aventurando-se por novo território estilístico antecipando-se ao que viria a ser feito nos futuros movimentos modernistas.Abstract : Dickinson lived in a society that cultivated the ideology of domesticity which expected that women unconditionally submitted to the men's needs and wants since they represented the power at home, in the church, in the politics and in the economy. These demands eventually gave birth to the first protests that would transform women's situation. Emily Dickinson's poetry must be approached without the stereotypes that prevent the social-cultural and aesthetic recovery of her work, two aspects that cannot be ignored. Her work was discouraged for publication because it did not meet the women writers' literary patterns of her time. Presenting every idea which she wanted to convey in a slant way, she put an end to the roles imposed by the patriarchal society in which she lived and made the choice to preserve her artistic integrity in a world where creativity and independence were denied to women. There is a repressed tension within her poems generated by the oppression which women saw themselves constrained to. In using an original and concise language made up of striking images and private metaphors, Dickinson inaugurated a new poetics that is open to many possibilities of interpretation. Therefore, because of her different writing style she cannot be labelled as a representative poet of the women's literary tradition of her age, which was tuned with the popular taste and permeated with a conservative and sentimental style.
