Resumo: Although the conventional rearing of quails is done in cages, part of the consumer market has required that poultry not be raised in this way. Therefore, an alternative rearing system for European quails was evaluated. Two treatments (rearing in cage or in portable aviary) were evaluated in six replicates of 30 birds, totaling 360 quails. The performance of 30 to 55 days of age, as well as live weight at slaughter, carcass yield and serum corticosteroid level were evaluated. Despite the higher feed intake, quails reared in the portable aviary presented higher weight and carcass yield. The corticosteroid level did not showed to be a reliable parameter to quantify the welfare of the quails. It is concluded that the portable aviary presents potential to be used as an alternative rearing system, because it does not harms the weight gain and feed conversion of the birds, besides improving the carcass yield.

Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia/UFRA2018-04-17info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://ajaes.ufra.edu.br/index.php/ajaes/article/view/2695Amazonian Journal of Agricultural Sciences Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Vol 60 No 4 (2017): RCA; 366-369Revista de Ciências Agrárias Amazonian Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; v. 60 n. 4 (2017): RCA; 366-3692177-87601517-591Xreponame:Revista de Ciências Agrárias (Belém.
