Resumo: This text presents a commented translation of the short story When I was dead by the American author of horror stories and poet Vincent O’Sullivan who has never been translated into Portuguese. The short story, published in 1896 and belonging to the collection of short stories Book of Bargains, presents the story of Alistair, a man who lives alone in his old mansion called Ravenell Hall and intends to execute a strange theory to summon a spirit by using drops of human blood, which will end up causing serious consequences to him. This translation still has introductory commentaries about the author, his works, his literary style, and the translation process.

O conto, publicado em 1896 e pertencente à coletânea de contos Book of Bargains, apresenta a história de Alistair, um homem que vive sozinho em sua antiga mansão chamada Ravenell Hall e pretende pôr em prática uma estranha teoria para invocar um espírito através do uso de gotas de sangue humano, o que acabará causando graves consequências para ele.
