THE APPLICATION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT DIMENSIONS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY IN THE CITIES OF CATTLE MILK PRODUCERS IN THE STATE OF PARAIBA

Resumo: The theoretical discussion concerning the sustainable development is acquiring a considerable space in the academic literature and in the managerial ambit, being consecrated as a challenging theme, based in the balance among the factors social, environmental and economical. The sustainability to issue as effective alternative to the restructuring of contemporary dilemmas related, in particular, the promotion of social inclusion, economic welfare and preserving the environment. In this perspective, the principal objective of this work is to identify the level of sustainability of the districts of the agreste paraibano involved with the production of the bovine milk and your influence in the politics and actions for generation of the sustainable local development. The methodology used as support to the accomplishment of the research it was the document regarding the Indicators of Sustainable Development (IDS): Brazil 2004, of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which approaches the following dimensions: Environmental, Social, Economical and Institutional. The obtained results evidence that the ten researched districts present unsatisfactory results in all the dimensions, with larger intensity for the economical and institutional dimensions. In that way, it is ended that the area, in spite of the existent potentialities concerning the production of milk, needs of larger attention on the part of the rulers, as well as of the institutions that support the subjects of sustainable development, in the sense of to minimize the effects of the restrictive factors to the development of the activity and to optimize the potentialities of the section.

La sostenibilidad emerge como alternativa eficaz para la restructuración de dilemas contemporáneos relacionados, sobre todo, a la promoción de la inclusión social, del bien estar económico y de la preservación del medio ambiente. En esta perspectiva, el principal objetivo de este trabajo es identificar el nivel de sostenibilidad de los municipios del agreste paraibano envueltos con la producción de la leche bovino y a su influencia en las políticas y acciones para generación del desarrollo local sostenible. La metodología utilizada como soporte a la realización de la investigación fue el documento referente a los Indicadores de Desarrollo Sostenible (IDS): Brasil 2004, del Instituto Brasileño de Geografía y Estadística (IBGE), lo cual aborda las siguientes dimensiones: Ambiental, Social, Económica e Institucional. Los resultados obtenidos evidencian que los diez municipios investigados presentan resultados insatisfactorios en todas las dimensiones, con mayor intensidad para las dimensiones económica e institucional. De esa forma, se concluye que la región, a pesar de las potencialidades existentes en el tocante a la producción de leche, necesita de mayor atención por parte de los gobernantes, bien como de las instituciones que apoyan las cuestiones de desarrollo sostenible, en el sentido de minimizar los efectos de los factores restrictivos al desarrollo de la actividad y optimizar las potencialidades del sector.A discussão teórica acerca do desenvolvimento sustentável vem adquirindo um espaço considerável na literatura acadêmica e no âmbito empresarial, consagrando-se como um tema desafiador, embasado no equilíbrio entre os fatores sociais, ambientais e econômicos.
