THE ABILITIES OF THE MANAGER OF PROJECTS: A FACTOR OF SUCCESS FOR THE ORGANIZATIONS

Resumo: | The last decades were characterized by fast transformations, followed by an increase without precedents of the industrial competition. The technological changes presented notable advances in the availability of information and in the speed of the communication. Organizations were forced to adapt to these changes under the risk to lose front to its competitors. One of the vectors of this current progress is the administration for projects. In the organizations that are dedicated to innovation, the administration for projects tends to be the main way of organization of the work. The practical experience and the administrative knowledge are factors that allow to assure that the project manager consists in one of the main determinative for the success of the projects and, therefore, of the organization. This work analyzed the factors that intervene with the management of project, of the point of view of the professionals of the area. For that, half-structuralized interviews with 23 project managers, from different formations, in 15 companies of different branches of activity, had been carried through. The collected data had been transcribed and analyzed by means of the content analysis. The abilities identified in the research, as necessary for the performance of this activity, had been compared to the described abilities in the models of: Shtub, Bard & Globerson (1994) e Kerzner (1998). It can be noticed, through this research, the proximity between the theory and the reality of these professionals, standing out factors related to the personal abilities and the structural characteristics of the organization where the project develops. |

Los cambios tecnológicos presentaron avances notables en la disponibilidad de la información y en la velocidad de las comunicaciones. Las organizaciones tuvieron que adaptarse a esos cambios bajo el riesgo de sucumbir frente a sus concurrentes. Uno de los vectores de este progreso actual es la administración por proyectos. En las organizaciones que se dedican a la innovación, la administración por proyectos tiende a ser el modo principal de organización del trabajo. La experiencia práctica y el conocimiento administrativo son factores que permiten asegurar que el gerente del proyectos se constituya en uno de los principales determinantes para el suceso de los proyectos y, por consiguiente, de la organización. Este trabajo analizó los factores que interfieren en la gerencia de proyecto, del punto de vista de los profesionales del área. Para tanto, fueron realizadas entrevistas semi-estructuradas con 23 gerentes de proyectos, de diferentes formaciones, en 15 empresas de diferentes ramos de actividad. Los datos recogidos fueron recompilados y analizados por medio de análisis de contenido. Las habilidades identificadas en la investigación como necesarias al desempeño de esta actividad, fueron comparadas a las habilidades descriptas en los modelos de: Shtub, Bard & Globerson (1994) y Kerzner (1998). Se puede percibir, por medio de esta investigación, la proximidad entre la teoría y la realidad de estos profesionales, resaltándose factores relacionados a las habilidades personales y a las características estructurales de la organización en que el proyecto se desarrolla.As últimas décadas foram caracterizadas por transformações rápidas, acompanhadas de um acirramento sem precedentes da concorrência industrial.
