Resumo: Competitiveness is a sine qua non condition for the development of a company, an industrial sector or even a nation. Taking that into consideration, and Brazilian food industry representativeness, this paper analyzes its international competitiveness in the light of Porter’s “diamond model” (1990).The analyses carried out showed that the sector studied is competitive, and that the overcoming of existing challenges will enable this competitiveness to grow and be maintained over time. These challenges, such as accessibility to low-interest capital, improvement in transportation infrastructure, maintenance of healthy competition, and investment in technology, should be faced both by the government and the companies of the sector.
