TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN BRAZILIAN MULTINATIONALS: IS THE INVESTMENT MADE IN THE HEADQUARTERS REPRODUCED IN FOREIGN BRANCHES?

Resumo: The need to train and develop workers has become a recurrent factor in the International People Management. However, globalization sharpens competition, which often leads to cost cuts. Recent studies indicate that transnational companies located in Brazil don’t train their local work forces. And Brazilian companies, do they develop their employees in their headquarters? And are their policies abroad the same as those in the headquarters? Therefore, this study aims to investigate the organizational relationship of the 71 largest multinationals with their workforces. This objective will be pursued through detailed interviews with managers from nine multinationals in the South of the Brazil and the analysis of investments, through social statements, in education, training and development. This research, of exploratory an nature and a quantitative and qualitative basis, statistically analyzed information concerning the generation of direct and indirect jobs, investment in education, training and development, adjusted net earnings and profit in the main Brazilian multinationals, and, qualitatively, seeks to examine how they invest in their foreign work forces.

Sin embargo, la globalización provoca la competitividad, exigiendo corte en los gastos. Estudios recientes indican que las multinacionales instaladas en Brasil no capacitan la fuerza productiva local. Y las empresas brasileñas desarrollan sus funcionarios en la matriz? Y en el exterior, sus políticas son las mismas de la sede? Así, objetiva el presente estudio verificar cuál es la relación organizacional de las 71 mayores multinacionales brasileñas con su fuerza de trabajo. Este objetivo será buscado a través de entrevistas en profundidad junto a administradores de nueve multinacionales del sur del país y del análisis de inversiones, a través de balances sociales, en educación, entrenamiento y desarrollo. Esta investigación, de carácter exploratorio y de carácter cuantitativo y cualitativo, analizó estadísticamente informaciones referentes a la generación de empleos directos e indirectos, inversión en educación, entrenamiento y desarrollo, facturación y lucro neto ajustado de las principales multinacionales brasileñas. Desta forma, objetiva o presente estudo verificar qual a relação organizacional das 71 maiores multinacionais brasileiras com sua força de trabalho. Este objetivo será perseguido através de entrevistas em profundidade junto a gestores de nove multinacionais do sul do país e da análise de investimentos, através de balanços sociais, em educação, treinamento e desenvolvimento.
