Political education and youth:: public policy and perception of the target audience on the subject

This article seeks to deepen the debate about the importance of a public policy of “civic education” or “democratic education”, something that, despite the current criticisms and fears, has always been present in the official pedagogical strategies of Brazil since becoming a republic, and that answers to the most elementary precepts of the concept of democracy. Based on this objective, the first focus is to understand what young people perceive about politics and about the role of the school in their education in matters of this nature through the review of studies about such themes. Furthermore, we seek to understand, based on a 2018 survey of high school students from public schools of São Paulo – which allowed the construction of an indicator of the affection of these young people to democracy – which social, economic and political variables would be able to characterize the interest of the public in the theme through the use of statistical method of simple linear regression.
