Resumo: The work analyzes the expansion of the budget of the Ministry of Education of Chile in this century, which has faced decisive changes for the strengthening of school education, as well as free higher education, which weigh on resources, its efficient use, and the fulfillment of objectives of the educational system. It seeks to account for a phenomenon on a national scale, little studied, in order to show the budgetary changes associated with the processes of social demands and disputes between the privatizing practice imposed in the 1980s, with attempts to change towards a conception of social rights in education. The analysis is based on publicly available information. The results show important changes in the provision of resources that have not similarly promoted public educational outcomes, opening up questions in this area.

Se busca dar cuenta de un fenómeno de escala país, escasamente estudiando, dirigido a evidenciar los cambios presupuestarios asociados a los procesos de demandas sociales y de disputas entre la práctica privatizadora impuesta en la década del 80, con intentos de cambio hacia una concepción de derecho social de la educación. El análisis se hace desde la información pública disponible.
