Resumo: Objective: verify the prevalence of eating difficulties and their associated factors in elderly residents of nursing homes and assisted living communities in the cities of xxxx, xxxx, and xxxx, xxxx. Method: The cross-sectional study, with elderly people aged 60 years or more. The outcome, eating problems, was assessed using five questions and categorized into the presence or absence of problems, if any of the questions were positive. Multivariate analysis was performed using Poisson Regression. For data entry into the multiple models, variables with p ≤ 0.20 were considered in the bivariate analysis. Results: A total of 469 elderly were evaluated, 71.4% of whom were female; 57.3% were classified as long-lived and 33.8% had feeding difficulties. The presence of problems was 1.863 times higher among the elderly at risk of malnutrition and 3.157 times higher among the malnourished elderly when compared to the elderly with normal nutritional status, 1.462 and 1.389 times higher among the elderly who had stroke and dementia. Conclusion: The prevalence of eating problems in this study was high, mainly associated with the risk of malnutrition and malnutrition, stroke, and dementia. Keywords: Aged. Diet, Food, and nutrition. Institutionalization. Nutritional status.
