Resumo: A result from a monograph research, this article analyses the contemporary concepts that guide the proposal of Australian artist Stelarc, and his vision of the human body, having as guiding principle the relationship between body, biotechnology and art. The intention is to contribute to the discussion about the attendance of technology as an accelerator of the concerns of contemporary man to his body, having the artistic production of Stelarc as an example of this phenomenon. The concept of body is investigated in this process. Finally, this concept is applied to artistic production of Stelarc in analyzing the basic premise of his work: “the human body is obsolete”. The result is the verification of the body as a place of reflection and art as an entity that promotes, advances and exposes this reflection by discussing the growing presence of technology in all spheres of life.

La intención es contribuir a la discusión sobre la irrupción de la tecnología como un acelerador de las preocupaciones del hombre contemporáneo con su cuerpo, teniendo la producción artística de Stelarc como un ejemplo de este fenómeno. El concepto del cuerpo es investigado en este proceso. Por último, este concepto es aplicado a la producción artística de Stelarc en el análisis de la premisa básica de su trabajo: "el cuerpo humano es obsoleto." El resultado es la verificación del cuerpo como un lugar de reflexión y del arte como una entidad que promueve los avances y expone esta reflexión al discutir la creciente presencia de la tecnología en todas las esferas de la vida.Resultado de pesquisa monográfica, este artigo analisa os conceitos contemporâneos que norteiam a proposta artística do australiano Stelarc, e a sua visão do corpo humano, tendo como linha condutora a relação entre corpo, biotecnologia e arte. A intenção é contribuir para a discussão sobre o comparecimento da tecnologia como agente acelerador das inquietações do homem contemporâneo para com o seu corpo, tendo a produção artística de Stelarc como um exemplo desse fenômeno. O conceito de corpo é investigado nesse processo. Por fim, esse conceito é aplicado à produção artística de Stelarc na análise do pressuposto basilar de sua obra: “o corpo humano é obsoleto”.
