Resumo: Kátia is a documentary about Kátia Tapety, the first transvestite elected to a political office in Brazil. She was a councilor three times and deputy mayor (2004-2008), an exceptional situation in the country that kills the most transgender people and transvestites in the world. Due to understand how the film builds Kátia’s life story, we start from the hypothesis that performance and memory constitute the foundation through which it is possible to access her as a character. For this, the analysis focuses on the interpretation of the immanent filmic components that allow the identification of these two instances, with theoretical support related to performance studies. Through the narrative elements provided by the film, the text sheds light on the protagonist’s subjectivity and reveals that individual memories can present a more collective character. This movement allows the film to go beyond crystallized and reductive imaginaries about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity that still insistently circulate in our society.

Foi vereadora por três vezes e vice-prefeita (2004-2008), uma situação excepcional no país que mais mata pessoas trans e travestis no mundo. Com o objetivo de perceber como o filme constrói a história de vida de Kátia, partimos da hipótese de que as performances do cotidiano, de gênero e da memória constituem o alicerce por meio do qual é possível acessá-la como personagem. Para isso, a análise se concentra nos componentes fílmicos imanentes que permitem a identificação dessas instâncias, com o suporte teórico relacionado aos estudos de performance. Pelos elementos narrativos fornecidos pelo filme, o texto lança luz à subjetividade da protagonista e revela que as memórias individuais podem apresentar um caráter mais coletivo.
