Resumo: | This paper presents a chronological overview of some theories about emotion throughout the history of Western science. The aim is to contribute to understanding the scientific context in which emerged the theoretical approach that proposes to investigate the role of cognitive appraisal on triggering and differentiation of emotions. Several computer models based on this approach have been employed to recognizing the student’s emotions in educational systems, regarding the influence of emotions on learning. |

O objetivo é contribuir para a compreensão do contexto científico no qual se originou a abordagem teórica que propõe a investigação do papel da avaliação cognitiva no disparo e diferenciação das emoções.
