Historical analysis about the development of Librarianship and Information Science in Angola, Mozambique and Ethiopia

This study is a historical analysis based on the review of literature of secondary sources, identifying the development of Information Science and Librarianship in Angola, Mozambique and Ethiopia between the second half of the 1970s and the first years of the 21st century, and how these disciplines were developed in the three countries most aligned to the former communist bloc. This work initially made a historical analysis of the origins of Angola, Mozambique and Ethiopia’s appearance in the world scenario in the mid-seventies. Afterwards, this research discusses the relationship of the Librarianship and Information Science scene in Angola, Mozambique and Ethiopia with the socialist bloc and Western countries, and the evolution of the disciplines in these three countries in a separated way. This research found that, despite the problems suffered by these fields in Angola, Ethiopia and Mozambique, the Librarianship and Information Science scenes in these countries present consistency in their structure, with courses and libraries in activity
