Resumo: This paper reports a case study focused on teaching quality as observed at a Centerfor Supplemental Education (CES), an educational institution located in thecity of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The investigation attempted to identify theconcept of quality in education today, the polysemy of meanings coveredby the term, the various approaches reported in the relevant literature aswell as the meanings it developed throughout the historical process. Thiswas done by means of an analysis of the various practices developed in thatspace during the diversified movement of dealing with youth and adultsubjects, and the relation between such practices and the teaching qualityoffered.
