Resumo: In the midst of the dynamic nature of modern organizations, it is essential to understand how administrative practices relate to each other in a context of emerging challenges in an immediate and pragmatic scenario in the organizational universe. In this context, the General Theory of Administration (GTA) has been adopted in many areas, including the Management of Information Units (IU), especially in Academic Libraries (AL), in order to link their existing connections and the ways in which they contribute to dealing with and organizing the information arsenal. For this reason, this article aims to comprehend the aspects related to GTA and how these theoretical and practical constructions can support the management of Academic Libraries. To achieve this objective, the methodology is based on an exploratory and bibliographical study with a qualitative approach, searching the scientific literature for the intersections and contributions of GTA within the scope of Academic Library management. The results show that there are connections between the administrative process and the various areas of general management theory that librarian managers should be aware of, and that can be applied to Information Units in order to help ensure efficiency and effectiveness in management. The conclusion is that Administration is a scientific area with relevant administrative theories, which are capable of enhancing the management of Information Units, providing support for a systemic and holistic understanding of the organizational environment.

The conclusion is that Administration is a scientific area with relevant administrative theories, which are capable of enhancing the management of Information Units, providing support for a systemic and holistic understanding of the organizational environment.
