Resumo: Early childhood education, a step previous to elementary education, offered in Nursery Schools for children between zero and six years old, aims for the child’s full development, considering its physical, psychological, intelectual and social aspects (BRASIL, 2014). Education in values must be performed based on mutual respect, in order to consolidate self-esteem and the building of one’s identity, respect the diversity of cultural expressions, promote team work and build up solidarity. As far as objectives go, the study meant to investigate how the IrmãDulce CMEI (Municipal Nursery Education Center, acronym in Portuguese) teachers, specifically the ones in the level I class, present the values to children between 2 and 3 years old by means of the program “Justice and School”. Regarding results, it was observed that the IrmãDulce CMEI teachers showcase the values - pillars - of the program “Character Matters” using the classroom’s daily experiences, leading to acts of respect, citizenship, carefulness, responsibility, sense of justice and honesty, which are the six pillars of the program. In conclusion, educating for citizenship involves the encouragement of people’s interactions, as well as the discussion of the ethical and political aspects that involve human beings. Such proposal is possible only by the continuous evaluation and renewal of educators’ practices, within a process of continuing education.

Such proposal is possible only by the continuous evaluation and renewal of educators’ practices, within a process of continuing education.A Educação Infantil, primeira etapa da educação básica, oferecida em Centros de Educação Infantil para crianças de zero a seis anos de idade, tem por finalidade o desenvolvimento integral da criança, em seus aspectos físico, psicológico, intelectual e social, complementando a ação da família e da sociedade (BRASIL, 2010). A educação em valores deve ser trabalhada fundamentando-se no respeito mútuo, a fim de fortalecer a autoestima e a construção da identidade, respeitar a diversidade de expressões culturais, valorizar o trabalho coletivo e desenvolver a solidariedade. Quanto aos objetivos buscamos identificar como as professoras do Centro Municipal de Educação Infantil – CMEI Irmã Dulce trabalham pedagogicamente os valores na educação infantil. Como metodologia, realizou-se pesquisa bibliográfica de cunho qualitativo, buscando subsídios legais e teóricos em leis e documentos oficiais para o desenvolvimento do trabalho com valores, além dos documentos e dados do “Programa Justiça e Escola”. Quanto aos resultados, observou-se que as professoras do CMEI Irmã Dulce trabalham os valores – pilares – do programa “O Caráter Conta” oportunizando as vivências diárias de sala, fazendo com que gerem atitudes de respeito, cidadania, zelo, responsabilidade, senso de justiça e sinceridade, que são os seis pilares abordados pelo programa. Concluindo, educar para a cidadania envolve a formação de atitudes para com os outros, assim como a discussão dos aspectos éticos e políticos que envolvem os seres humanos.
