Resumo: The current research presents a reflective account of the experiences I underwent on my first year as a head teacher in Early Childhood Education, inside Fundação Marie Jost (Marie Jost Foundation), located in the city of Natal / RN. The teaching practice was carried out in Kindergarten with children between 5 and 6 years old, aiming to intervene in the construction of pupils' knowledge and autonomy. The research brings descriptions of the school characteristics, as well as practices carried out, authors and theoretical foundation that aided in the methodology, showing the capacity to build autonomous beings since childhood. Based on the National Curriculum Standards for Early Childhood Education - RCNEI(BRASIL, 1998), in addition to theorists such as Piaget (1994) and Vygotsky (1989). It was concluded, from this study, that the teacher has a primordial role in the evolutive process and in the construction of the autonomy of the children, since the child is a social being, that is constituted by the relations created throughout life.

A prática docente foi realizada no nível V com crianças entre 5 e 6 anos, tendo a finalidade de intervir na construção do conhecimento e autonomia dos alunos. O trabalho traz descrições das características da escola, assim como práticas realizadas, autores e fundamentação teórica que auxiliaram na metodologia, mostrando a capacidade de construir seres autônomos desde a infância. Tendo como base o Referencial Curricular Nacional para Educação Infantil – RCNEI (BRASIL, 1998), além de teóricos como PIAGET (1994) e VYGOTSKY (1989).
