Variação sazonal dos componentes da síndrome metabólica em indivíduos adultos e idosos

Aim: to evaluate in individuals with metabolic syndrome the frequency of components of the metabolic syndrome by seasons of the year. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 180 individuals (18-80 years old) diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and distributed in the seasons, according to the date of completion of the biochemical tests. The anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, lipid profile and fasting glucose analysis were performed. Food consumption was measured using the 24-hour dietary recall and life style information was obtained by questionnaire. Results: the mean age was 50.11(12.26) years, with a predominance of females (78%). The mean BMI was 33.38(6.82) kg/m2; 106 (59%) were not smokers, 145 (81%) did not consume alcohol and 107 (59%) practiced physical activity. The concentration of HDL cholesterol differed significantly among the seasons (p = 0.014), showing a lower concentration of this component in the summer 32,54(6,89) mg/dL. The frequency of the other components of the metabolic syndrome did not differ significantly among seasons. Conclusions: HDL presented seasonal variation with greater metabolic impairment in the summer, showing the importance of evaluating the seasonality of the components of the metabolic syndrome in the clinical care.
