National and international official documents on the inclusion of people with disabilities have consistently denounced the lack of preparation of teachers to deal with pupils with special educational needs (SEN) in the classroom, due to the lack of initial training to teach this public. This is due to the lack of initial and continuing training policies for this purpose. According to this fact, the research question in this work was: "What contributions exist in the national research literature on special and inclusive mathematical education for the development and use of Assistive Technologies in learning mathematics by students with special educational needs?" objectives of this work were: to bring the concepts of special education and inclusive education, to present and discuss, from several authors, the concept of assistive technologies, to make a cut of the current legislation for the education of people with SEN and to list examples of technologies which can contribute to the teaching and learning of mathematics for students with disabilities, with global developmental disorders or with high skills and giftedness. In order to reach these objectives, a review of the literature was made based on a search in the main Brazilian Mathematical Education magazines, published in the last 15 years. The results of this research pointed to the lack of specific materials for the teaching of mathematics to students with SEN, because despite the concern of several authors with those who need specialized educational services, it is still difficult to find a variety of assistive technologies for the teaching of this discipline.
