Resumo: Introduction: Self-medication is an ancient practice and widespread in all parts of the world. It has become a very common habit among students of the pharmacy course, due to the easy access to the medication, the apology to the consumption generated by the advertisements and the influence of the knowledge obtained during the graduation. Objective: To find evidence of self-medication in undergraduate pharmacy students. Methods: a search was carried out in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (BVS-BIREME), Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) of UFS, Scielo and Google Scholar, with the objective of identifying studies that addressed the problematic of self-medication in undergraduate pharmacy students in Brazil. Included in the search were original studies published in Portuguese that address the topic, published in the last five years. Results: We selected 17 studies, where it was observed that the prevalence of self-medication among undergraduate students in pharmacy is high. Factors such as advertising, easy access to medications and self-confidence acquired during graduation were the conditioning factors to stimulate this practice. Conclusion: The consumption of non-prescription medication among university pharmacists is high. The implementation of preventive actions, broadening the discussion of this subject in an interdisciplinary way aiming at the rational use of medicines can contribute to the reduction of health damages that this practice causes. Thus, the results of this research may contribute to increase the knowledge about the practice of selfmedication, its risks and the prevalence among pharmacy students, as well as providing information for the development of other researches, helping to understand thistopic.
