This work sought to address the theme of school libraries, specifically the law n° 12,244/2010 and public policies that seek its implementation in municipal and state public schools in the city of Aracaju-SE. Seeking to identify what are the gaps that prevent the universalization of the law in the state. Its specific objectives are: to identify academic papers that analyze the law No. 12.244/2010, presenting its advances and gaps; identify initiatives at the state level for the creation of public policies that seek the applicability of Law No. 12.244/2010 and present public policies and actions that will serve as a reference for public management in Sergipe, based on Library Science parameters and researchers. The methodology adopted was exploratory and bibliographical research with a qualitative approach, the data collection method was through an interview with the representative of the Association Professional of Librarians and Documentalists of Sergipe (APBDSE) and also with the representative of the Secretary of State of Education and Culture (SEDUC). It presents in the results and discussions the interpretations of the initiatives carried out by each body around the enforcement of the law in Sergipe. It is concluded that the legislation has considerable deficiencies, requiring the creation of effective policies for its application, in addition to the restitution of the position of librarian in the state and a greater approximation with the parameters of Librarianship.
